#1) Soft Color Palettes
The number one trend we are seeing for 2014 are soft color palettes. Shades of pink, blush, and peach seem to be dominating the wedding color boards followed closely by nude and rustic tonal colors like taupe, oatmeal, and gray. Expect to see more brides reaching for gold and brown as their accent color over silver to add warmth to their color palette.
#2) - Shades of Blue
Not into the pastel color palettes? 2014 will also see in influx in blue color schemes. Navy blue will be a popular blue color paired with colors like yellow, peach and pink, and other shades of blue. Green blues will remain big from last year with mint being a popular color choice among brides.
#3) - Dramatic Veils
Wedding veils help tie together your entire bridal look and, at times, just this one accessory can bring a whole new style to your wedding dress. Long, dramatic veils will be the style of choice for 2014 brides with embroidered laced mantilla veils and long cathedral wedding veils being the two most popular styles. Juliet caps are also creeping up in the style spotlight and are being seen more for art deco weddings and period weddings (see #7 below).
#4) - Food Trucks and Food Stations
Expect to see more of a focus on creative food choices this year. Food specific stations like taco bars, breakfast bars, and build your own grilled cheese will be some of the hot stations we expect to see in 2014. Miniature food has seen a steady incline and will also remain a popular choice among brides and grooms. We would love to see more food trucks being incorporated into outdoor weddings.
#5) Trailing Bouquets and Centerpieces
Flowers this year will be lush, elegant, and romantic. Cascading and trailing bridal bouquets will be a popular choice among brides filled with loosely tied stems and greenery. Peonies are forecasted to be this year's top wedding flower. We expect to see flower arrangements to be filled with lush greenery and succulents. Some romantic flowers to watch for are peonies, hydrangeas, ranunculus, and roses.
#6) - Naked Cakes, Edible Glitter, and Ruffles
Keeping with rustic themed weddings, naked cakes are becoming more and more popular for weddings. What are naked cakes? Cakes that remain unfrosted on the outside keeping a somewhat raw and disheveled look (see below right). Whether topped with berries or extravagant flower arrangements, we love this trend and can't wait to see what 2014 has in store. Other hot cake trends to watch for are sparkled dipped or dusted cakes and cakes decorated with ruffled icing or ombre colors.
#7) - Art Deco and The Great Gatsby
Art Deco was the decorative time period between the 1920's and 1930's that greatly affected the fashion industry and architecture. It is greatly characterized by its geometric shapes and glamorous fashion. The Great Gatsby is a popular novel and now popular movie based in this time period and is getting a lot of attention among brides. Expect to see more of this period based bridal fashion and decorations this year especially in the choice of wedding dresses, veils, hair accessories, table centerpieces, and stationery.
#8) - Bow Ties and Stylized Grooms
This year's fashion is not just limited to the bride and bridesmaids. More emphasis is being placed on the grooms attire with many grooms choosing their wedding day look based more on personality and personal characteristics. Expect to see more bow ties and classic black and white tuxes. Relaxed suits will also remain popular but there will be more of a focus on tailoring and fit. After all, he needs to feel pampered for the big day, too.
#9) - Sparkle and Sequins
Ultra girly glitter, sparkle, and sequins are creeping up in Pinterest feeds and real wedding inspiration. And it's no wonder. What is more romantic and luxe feeling than glitter and sparkles? For brides wanting to lend an expensive look to their wedding without the high price tag, this is a trend to watch out for.
#10) - Lace, Sleeves, and Open Backs
Last on our top ten but definitely not least, wedding dresses. To some brides their wedding dress is one of the most important aspects of their wedding day (next to the groom of course). This years brides want to look ultra romantic and feminine on their big day and are opting for delicate lace and beaded gowns to do so. With the continued popularity of vintage weddings, cap sleeves are also gaining interest especially when coupled with lace and beaded detailing. Open and low back dresses will also be popular for 2014 and will most likely be seen paired with cap or long sleeves which can add a bit of sexiness to a traditional silhouette.
