Bring- A-Book Baby Showers
Book themed baby showers are becoming increasingly popular. The idea behind them is that every guest will bring their favorite children's book to donate to the baby's library. Be sure to ask each guest to sign the inside cover of the book along with a special message explaining why they chose that particular story. The books are usually brought in lieu of more practical gifts, like diapers and burp cloths. This makes this type of baby shower best for the mother-to-be who already has everything she needs or has older children who will pass down necessities from their own babyhood. Martha Stewart has featured the beautiful book themed baby shower shown here, complete with nursery rhyme inspired menu, paper book garland, and paper covered books to serve as centerpieces.
New dads are joining in the celebrations with co-ed baby showers and diaper parties thrown by the dad-to-be's closest male friends. A diaper party takes all the guess work out of gift giving. Friends simply show up with a contribution of diapers for the new dad and typically move on to the typical male bonding over food, drinks, and sports. These parties have also been dubbed "dad-chelor parties" because they often have an atmosphere similar to that of a bachelor party, full of low-key male bonding. This is the perfect time to for the new dad to have a night out with the guys before the nights at home with baby begin. Another great gift idea for fathers-to-be, is the adorable Daddy's Tools Diaper Bag shown here which helps make sure the dad is prepared for his new role with all the tools of the trade.
Miniature food is always a hit, but at a baby shower small appetizers are particularly appropriate. These baby size snacks can include mini sandwiches and shot glass soups, sliders, and petite fairy cakes. To add to the fun, find out the new mom's favorite food cravings and feature them in bite sized portions to serve at the baby shower. If the mommy-to-be's favorites include strange combinations like pickles and ice cream, encourage guests to try each flavor for a hilarious taste-testing game.
Upscale brunches are so fun to attend. What could be better than dainty decorations combined with breakfast cupcakes and french toast? Hosting a baby shower during brunch hours gets guests excited for a novel experience. Plenty of coffee and tea should be on hand for this mid-morning meal as well as a variety of hearty breakfast foods. Modernize the menu by serving french toast squares over shots of maple syrup and glass milk bottles full of orange juice complete with decorative striped straws. The lovely brunch display (shown left) also featured donut topiaries and maple bacon skewers. Yum!
Add a little mystery to your baby shower with a gender reveal! These showers can be co-ed or traditional and are centered around revealing whether the new baby will be a girl or a boy. There are a variety of ways to pull off the reveal. The most common way is to serve cupcakes tinted blue or pink inside, like the one shown here from Cream and Flutter via Half Baked, The Cake Blog. When guests take a bite, the color of the cupcake filling lets them know what gender the baby will be. You can either use gender neutral decorations like the "What will it Bee" honey bee theme found on The Hostess Bog or the "Waddle it be" duck theme shown here from The Backroom blog. You could also play up the pink and blue, after all if it might be your last chance to enjoy sweet pink if your bundle of joy is a boy!
